Many people always feel confused with water-resistant, water-repellent and waterproof. What is the difference among them? In this article we will talk about them.
First of all let us explain the definition of the three words, which are given by the Oxford English Dictionary.
l Water-resistant: able to resist the penetration of water in some degree but not entirely, that means it can resist water intrusion but not be guaranteed. This is the LOWEST level of protection.
l Water-repellent: not easily penetrated by water, especially as a result of being treated for such a purpose with a surface coating, which can repel of water intrusion. This is the MEDIUM level of protection.
l Waterproof: impervious to water. This is the HIGHEST level of protection.
What does water-resistant mean?
Water-resistant is the lowest level of water protection among of the three. If a bag labeled water-resistant that means the construction of the bag makes it easy for water to get inside of the bag, or possibly the fabric is coated very light substance, that helps the bag from being wet with an encounter of water.
What does water-repellent mean?
Water-repellent is a higher level from the water-resistant. Bags labeled water-repellent represent that the bag repel water, which makes them hydrophobic.
What does waterproof mean?
Waterproof is the highest level of water protection.
